Nuclear powerplants are a classical symptom of an economic system that is dominated by profits rather than concerns for the safety of people and environment. All of us vividly remember the pictures of the disaster of the most recent nuclear blowout in Japan. We cannot believe in the possiblity of a safe use of nuclear power any more. Nevertheless the nuclear lobby is still very successful in exerting influence on governments all over the world. Although a vast majority of the population is pro nuclear phaseout, politicians are reluctant to follow suit.
Even after the horrible nuclear catastrophe of Chernobyl 25 years ago more new nuclear powerplants were built, as if nothing had happened. Due to the so-called liberalization of the energy market the profits of the nuclear power industry kept rising steadily. And in most governments and parliaments the nuclear lobby has strong supporters. The Social Democrats must stand up for safer and more sustainable forms of energy and oppose the nuclear lobby.
High time to change our energy politics and to get rid of the nuclear lobby!
Nuclear power – NO THANKS!
